545lbs of thrust with a Viking 130 and a 68” whirlwind spinning at 5700 rpm. I obviously have to adjust for a bigger bite but man that engine just sings. That’s a lot of thrust for a 770lb Savannah S. We did do a weight and balance today and with no ballast were right at the forward limit of the cg. I purpose built the airplane to avoid ballast. Don’t let anyone tell you the Viking is too heavy. Great day today.
Check out the links to a couple of "amateur" videos we captured on thrust test day. The airplane still needs work but man that Viking is fantastic.
What a beautiful engine the 130 is. This engine is ready to run and look how clean that installation is. That’s not really my doing, the engine just goes in that way. We’re going to do thrust testing today. Some videos to fallow.
Sounds smooth, be flying in no time.
your just seeing the video snippet. When that starts look on the upper right side of the video and you will see a little play arrow. That will play the whole video.
I’m doing most of the work but it is kind of a family project.
Karl, I watched you get in and out of that airplane a dozen time, but never saw the engine run? It's looking good though. Is that build a father & son project?
